Ranisankail is an important upazila of Thakurgaon district. Geographically, it is a region washed by the Kulik and Nagar rivers, known for its fertile land and natural beauty. In ancient times, this region was also known as 'Bhatpara'. Ranisankail is particularly acclaimed for its historical significance; among its notable landmarks is the historic 'Nekmarad Mazar Sharif', which is known as a spiritual and cultural center. Additionally, the architecturally rich 'Ranisankail Rajbari' and the 'Pagla Pir Mazar' attract many tourists. The massive fair held annually in Nekmarad is an integral part of the region's heritage, drawing people from far and wide. The economy of the upazila is primarily agriculture-based, with extensive cultivation of various rabi crops alongside rice and wheat. Recently, with the touch of modern agricultural technology, the agricultural produce of this region is playing a significant role in meeting the country's demand. The upazila is also continuously advancing in terms of literacy rate and awareness. Among the illustrious sons of Ranisankail's soil are the renowned Bangladeshi fiction writer and academic Professor Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, and it is also known to many as the ancestral home and a place filled with childhood memories of the eminent educationist and writer Dr. Humayun Ahmed.
