About the Institute
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University (BSMRAAU) is the first and only specialized university in Bangladesh, established for the promotion of aviation and space research. Located in the historic airport area of Lalmonirhat district, the university is spread over an area of about 102 acres. Its geographical location is very significant, as the Lalmonirhat airbase, which was used during World War II, is historically associated with aviation. This institution, which started its journey in 2019, is establishing itself as a unique center for modern and high-tech education such as aerospace engineering and aviation management.
Currently, the university is teaching contemporary subjects such as aerospace engineering, aviation operations and aircraft maintenance engineering at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Here, special emphasis is given to practical training along with theoretical education, for which there is an opportunity to use state-of-the-art laboratories and simulators. A strong panel consisting of experienced teachers and skilled officers of the Air Force is working to manage the academic activities of the university. The main goal of this institution is to develop students as skilled engineers and aviation experts through research-based education.
The distance of this university from the district town of Kurigram is about 45 to 50 kilometers. It can be easily reached from Kurigram via Lalmonirhat by road. Since the transportation system is quite developed, students can easily travel by bus or their own transport. The campus of the university is also quite attractive to visitors for its beautiful environment and historical structures. Although it is a new institution, it is quickly gaining recognition in the national and international arena due to its academic excellence and infrastructural development. The Honorable President has been serving as the Chancellor of this university and high-ranking officers of the Air Force as the Vice-Chancellors, which has further increased its administrative importance.
