Taraganj(Upazila)
Taraganj Upazila is an important and traditional administrative region of Rangpur district.
Located in the northwestern part of the district, it is surrounded by Kishoreganj of Nilphamari district to the north, Badarganj to the south, Rangpur Sadar to the east, and Saidpur Upazila to the west.
Once known as 'Taraganj Bandar,' it was quite famous as a center of trade.
Situated in the basin of the Karatoya and Ichamati rivers, the land here is extremely fertile, which serves as the main driving force of the economy in this agriculture-based region.
This Upazila is particularly known for the cultivation of potatoes, paddy, and maize.
This historically rich region is dotted with several old structures and architectural remnants from the British era, which bear witness to its long history.
Among the tourist attractions in Taraganj are the scenic nature along the banks of the Ichamati River and various old mosques and temples.
In recent times, various infrastructural changes and the expansion of modern communication systems have been observed in the overall development of the Upazila.
Among the notable personalities associated with this area, the ancestral home and family memories of the renowned litterateur and educationist Dr.
Muhammed Zafar Iqbal and the famous writer and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed are closely intertwined with the cultural atmosphere of this region (though they are primarily representatives of the greater region).
Currently, Taraganj has gained a special reputation in the Rangpur division for its advanced agricultural marketing system and the vibrancy of its local markets.
