About the Institute
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) started its journey in 1876 as the ‘Dhaka Survey School’, which was later transformed into the ‘Ahsanullah School of Engineering’ in 1912 and a full-fledged engineering university in 1962. Located in Palashi, the heart of Dhaka, this university is spread over an area of about 76 acres. Its architectural style, especially the central Shaheed Minar, historical academic buildings and green courtyards fascinate visitors. It is recognized as the highest and most prestigious institution of engineering education in the country.
Currently, BUET conducts very rigorous and quality education programs in the semester system. Here, world-class research and teaching are conducted in various departments at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels under the faculties of Engineering, Architecture and Planning. Under the supervision of modern laboratories, a rich central library and skilled teachers, students are constantly involved in innovative work. The contribution of this university to the technological development of the country is undeniable.
The distance from BUET to the main city of Kurigram is more than 350 kilometers. Direct bus service or train (Kurigram Express) is the most convenient way to get from Kurigram to Dhaka. After reaching Dhaka, one can easily go to the campus located in Palashi by rickshaw or CNG from any place.
Among the numerous nationally renowned personalities who have studied from this institution are National Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, eminent scientist Dr. M. A. Wazed Mia and many successful technologists and policymakers of the present day. BUET is not just an educational institution, but it is a unique beacon of talent and thought in Bangladesh.
