About the Institute
Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) is the only specialized public university in Bangladesh, which works to produce skilled manpower in the textile and apparel industry. This institution, which started its journey as a 'Textile Institute' in 1921, was upgraded to a full-fledged university in 2010. Located on about 14 acres of land in Tejgaon, Dhaka, this campus is known for its modern architecture and green surroundings. The Shaheed Minar, central library and well-equipped academic buildings inside the campus enhance its aesthetics.
Currently, there are 10 different departments under B.Sc. in Textile Engineering taught here in semester system. Along with theoretical education, special emphasis is given to hands-on training in state-of-the-art laboratories, which makes students skilled in facing the real challenges of the industry. The university's curriculum is updated regularly by maintaining international standards, as a result of which its graduates are leading the domestic and foreign textile industries.
The distance of this university from the main city of Kurigram is about 350 kilometers. Trains (such as Kurigram Express) and bus services are very popular and comfortable for traveling from Dhaka to Kurigram. For traveling by road, the Dhaka-Tangail-Rangpur highway is used, which is currently quite developed. It is also possible to reach Kurigram by air via Syedpur Airport.
Many of the alumni of this university have become policymakers and successful entrepreneurs in the country's textile sector. The contribution of its graduates to the development of the garment industry in Bangladesh is undeniable. This university, which is full of eminent personalities of the industry and successful engineers, is today the main driving force of the textile sector, known as the backbone of the economy of Bangladesh.
