Begum Rokeya University (BRUR)

Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BEROBI) is a government higher education institution established in 2008. Located at the intersection of Park in Rangpur, this university is spread over an area of about 75 acres. Named after Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, the pioneer of women's awakening, this institution is known for its aesthetic architecture and beautiful natural environment. The Central Shaheed Minar, Independence Monument and Rokeya Chattar located inside the campus are the main tourist attractions here, which stand as a symbol of the creativity and patriotism of the students. Currently, the university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in 22 departments under 6 faculties. In addition to following a modern and up-to-date curriculum, educational programs are being conducted in the semester system. Special emphasis is given to research-based education under the supervision of a skilled teaching staff. In addition, students are also encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities through various clubs and cultural organizations, which play a helpful role in developing their leadership and skills. The distance from Kurigram district town to Begum Rokeya University is about 50 to 55 kilometers. There is a direct bus service from Kurigram for transportation, which can easily reach the Park intersection in Rangpur. In addition, it is possible to come to Rangpur station from Kurigram by train and from there go to the campus by rickshaw or auto-rickshaw. Due to the ease of communication, students from various districts of the northern region including Kurigram regularly travel here to pursue higher education. Since the establishment of this university, many talented educators and researchers have taught here. The first Vice-Chancellor of the university was the distinguished educationist Professor Dr. M Lutfar Rahman. In addition, at different times, prominent intellectuals and educators of the country have been associated here as guest teachers and have contributed to the improvement of the academic standards of the university. At present, the university has become one of the main centers of higher education in North Bengal.
