About the Institute
Government Begum Rokeya College, located in the heart of Rangpur city, is a bright beacon in the promotion of women's education. Established in 1959, this educational institution started its journey with the aim of removing the limitations of women's education at that time. Spread over about 6 acres of land, this college initially started its journey as a private initiative, but later it was upgraded to a government college. Named after Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, the pioneer of women's awakening, this college is currently one of the leading higher education institutions in greater Rangpur. Recently, as a result of infrastructural development and modernization, the college has taken on a new look while maintaining its tradition.
Currently, this college offers various subjects at the higher secondary level as well as undergraduate (pass) and graduate (honors) and postgraduate levels. More than 15,000 students are studying here. Modern multimedia classrooms, rich libraries and science laboratories have made the learning environment of the students more lively. Under the supervision of skilled and experienced teachers, students are encouraged not only to study textbooks but also to participate in co-curricular activities and creative practices, which help them to stay ahead in the competition of their careers.
The memories of many talented people are associated with this school. In particular, the ideals and thoughts of ascetics like the eminent educationist and writer **Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah** always inspire the teachers and students of this institution. In addition, at different times, many prominent intellectuals and national-level personalities of Bangladesh have participated in various programs of this college and inspired the students. Government Begum Rokeya College has become a unique symbol of women's education in the northern region due to its unique contribution to education, culture and research.
