National University

Located in the heart of Gazipur, the National University is the name of a huge undertaking in higher education in Bangladesh.

Established in 1992, this university started its journey as an ‘affiliating’ or affiliated university to control the academic activities and affiliation of government and private colleges across the country. Its main campus, spread over about 11.5 acres of land, is used as the center of administrative and academic work. Currently, more than 2,250 colleges across the country are being run under this university, which has established it as one of the largest universities in the world. Recently, the university has taken various timely steps to ensure digital transformation and the use of modern technology in its administrative activities. In terms of academic activities, the National University runs a huge curriculum of undergraduate (pass), graduate (honors), postgraduate and professional courses. Currently, major changes have been brought in the teaching style; especially, emphasis is being placed on providing creative and practical education to students instead of just rote learning. Efforts are being made to provide quality education to marginalized students through the use of digital learning platforms, online classes and modern ICT infrastructure. Various technical and vocational courses are also being introduced regularly to improve the skills of students. The names of many renowned educationists and intellectuals of the country are associated with this large institution. The first Vice-Chancellor of the university was the eminent educationist and physicist Dr. Abdul Matin Patwary. His far-reaching leadership played an important role in laying the foundation of this institution. In addition, at different times, eminent educationists of the country have served as its Vice-Chancellors and worked to improve the academic quality of the university. Currently, the university administration is working tirelessly to make this vast education system more dynamic and up-to-date, which has taken the National University to a unique height in the country's higher education map.
