About the Institute
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) was established in 1986 and its academic activities started in 1991 with only three departments. The university is located in Kumargaon, Sylhet, in a beautiful environment surrounded by about 320 acres of hilly hills and natural beauty. Inside the campus, there is a beautiful roundabout, central Shaheed Minar, the sculpture of the Liberation War 'Chetna 71', and a spacious library building. In addition, the natural lake here and the architectural style built on the slopes of the hill fascinate visitors.
Currently, the university teaches in the semester system, where special emphasis is given to modern technology-based and research-based education. Undergraduate and postgraduate education programs are being conducted here in about 28 departments under the faculties of science, engineering, technology, social sciences and business administration. It was the first university in the country to introduce the 'Integrated Honors' system. In addition, students have been showing regular success in modern subjects such as robotics, artificial intelligence and space research.
The distance from Kurigram district town to Shabiprabir is about 350 kilometers. Sylhet can be reached directly from Kurigram by bus or train. Being located on the outskirts of Sylhet city, it is possible to easily travel to the campus from any part of the city by rickshaw, CNG or Laguna.
The names of many talented people are associated with this university. The country's renowned writer and educationist Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal has taught here for a long time, which has taken the institution to a unique height across the country. In addition, many talented students and researchers in the field of science and technology of the country have contributed to this institution.
