Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University

Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SBU) is one of the leading centers of agricultural education in Bangladesh.

It started its journey from the ‘Bengal Agricultural Institute’ established in 1938, which was later upgraded to a full-fledged university in 2001. Located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, the heart of Dhaka, this university is spread over about 87 acres of land. This vast campus surrounded by greenery is a unique area of modern agricultural research. Recently, this university has been playing a special role in the innovation of smart agricultural technology and the development of climate-tolerant crop varieties, which have been making an important contribution to ensuring the food security of the country. In terms of academic activities, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University is very rich. Currently, it offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses under five faculties. In terms of teaching, special emphasis is given not only to theoretical knowledge, but also to hands-on learning. Students get the opportunity to work with the latest agricultural technologies in the university's own farms, modern research laboratories and laboratories. In addition, the institution is making its presence felt on the world stage through the publication of international standard research papers and joint research with agricultural universities of different countries. The name of Sher-e-Bangla A. K. Fazlul Haque, the Chief Minister of undivided Bengal and farmer leader, is associated with the history of this university. The foundation of this institution was laid with his visionary thinking and dream of changing the fate of the people of the agriculturally dominant region. Even today, the university, embracing his ideals, is accelerating the agricultural revolution of the country through agricultural education, research and extension.
