About the Institute
Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SBU) is one of the best agricultural education institutions in Bangladesh. It started its journey as the ‘Bengal Agricultural Institute’ under the leadership of Sher-e-Bangla A. K. Fazlul Haque in 1938. Later, it was upgraded to a full-fledged university in 2001. Located in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital, this institution is spread over about 87 acres of land. Its beautiful campus has the tomb of Sher-e-Bangla A. K. Fazlul Haque, the central Shaheed Minar, a beautiful administrative building and a vast green field, which fascinates visitors.
Currently, modern and up-to-date agricultural education is being provided here on a credit-based semester system. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses under four faculties: Agriculture, Agribusiness and Management, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries. By placing special emphasis on research-based education, the students here are playing an important role in the development of agriculture at the national and international levels. In addition, this university regularly organizes various innovative projects and seminars to modernize the country's agricultural sector.
The distance of this institution from the district town of Kurigram is about 350 kilometers. From Kurigram, one can come to Dhaka directly by bus or train and easily reach the campus from Gabtoli or Shyamoli by rickshaw or CNG. This campus, which is associated with the memory of Sher-e-Bangla A. K. Fazlul Haque, one of the architects of the country's agricultural revolution, is not just an educational institution, but an integral part of the modernization of agriculture in Bangladesh.
