Astomirchar Union(Union)
Ashtamir Char Union is an isolated, river-surrounded settlement in the Chilmari Upazila of Kurigram district.
This char, which emerged from the heart of the Brahmaputra River, is geographically very diverse, where river erosion and the lifestyle of the char dwellers are inseparable parts of life during the monsoon.
It is located about 30-35 kilometers from Kurigram district town; the main mode of transport is by waterway from Chilmari port.
Locally, it is also often known as 'Ashtamir Charer Char'.
Most of the people in this union depend on agriculture and fishing.
Although there are no significant large structures here, the vast waters of the Brahmaputra and the horizon-stretching crop fields of the char are sources of natural beauty.
Despite being hit by river erosion every year during the monsoon, the indomitable struggle for life of the people here is the main characteristic of this region.
Since boats are the only means of transport, the communication system becomes somewhat challenging during the rainy season.
However, it remains connected to the mainland through water transport with Chilmari port.
