Chattogram Zoo was established on February 28, 1989, through the initiative of the then Deputy Commissioner M. A. Sayed. Due to its location on the slopes and heights of hills, the natural beauty of this zoo is distinct from any other. The main objective of its establishment was entertainment for the common people of Chattogram along with the conservation and breeding of wildlife. Although it started on a limited scale, it currently houses various species of animals and birds.
Among the main attractions to see here are a pair of rare white tigers brought from South Africa, Asian tigers, lions, leopards, bears, pythons, and various species of deer. Additionally, there are numerous species of local and exotic colorful birds and an aviary. Right next to the zoo is the famous artificial reservoir Foy's Lake and the hilly area of Ambagan. Notable nearby educational institutions include the Asian University for Women and Chattogram Independent University.
To reach this zoo in the Foy's Lake area from Chattogram city or the zero point, rickshaws, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, or buses are easily available. One can easily enter the zoo by coming towards Foy's Lake from GEC Circle or A. K. Khan Circle.
