Situated near the estuary of the Meghna River and hugging the Sandwip Channel, parts of it are influenced by river erosion and shoals. Fishermen in the coastal areas also depend on the river. There are a few small local markets that serve as the main centers for the daily shopping of the locals.
For transportation, waterways are the primary means of reaching the mainland of Sandwip. Since parts of the main waterways connecting Sandwip to Kumira or Sitakunda are close to this region, watercraft must be used for travel. Rickshaws, vans, and small vehicles are used for internal transportation within the union.
