Hatibandha(Upazila)
Hatibandha Upazila, located in the north-west of Lalmonirhat district, is a serene region washed by the Teesta River.
The geographical importance of this upazila, which has developed along the banks of the Teesta, is immense, as it is home to the 'Teesta Barrage,' one of the country's largest irrigation projects.
This barrage, a unique masterpiece of engineering, and its vast surrounding areas are very popular among tourists.
The blend of the Teesta's turbulent form during the monsoon and its calm nature in the dry season gives the landscape a distinct elegance.
The branches and tributaries of the Teesta flowing through the heart of the upazila, along with the lush green crop fields, have made the lives of the people here rhythmic and vibrant.
The soil of Hatibandha, enriched by a blend of tradition and culture, holds much history.
Among the notable places in this region, besides the Teesta Barrage, there are adjacent parks and picnic spots that become lively during winter for outings.
Locally, this region is quite well-known for its agricultural products.
Renowned litterateur and journalist Rahat Khan grew up on this very soil, which bears testimony to the upazila's literary heritage.
In recent times, the area has been a subject of much discussion due to demands for the implementation of the Teesta River management and master plan, as well as various government initiatives taken to prevent river erosion.
With its abundance of greenery and the gentle breeze of the Teesta, Hatibandha stands tall today as a promising and peaceful region.
