Hazaribag(Thana)

Hazaribagh, situated along the banks of the Buriganga River in the southwestern part of Dhaka city, was once globally renowned for its tannery industry, which gave the region a distinct geographical and economic identity.

Administratively, it is an important police station area under the Dhaka South City Corporation.

It is popularly believed that the place was named after the abundance of thousands of gardens (bagicha) that once existed here.

It is bordered by densely populated areas like Dhanmondi and Jigatala, and its proximity to the river has given it a special dynamism.

Following the relocation of the tannery industry to Savar, the area is currently undergoing a new phase of residential and commercial transformation.

The traditional Hazaribagh Park, a part of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) headquarters in Pilkhana, and the environment along the nearby Buriganga riverbank have given the area a unique significance.

To the locals, it remains a unique settlement, blending its old heritage with a bustling atmosphere.

Although once known as the hub of the leather industry, it is now one of the most densely populated and vibrant residential areas of modern Dhaka.

Through the course of history and evolution, Hazaribagh is today a settlement awaiting a new transformation, where the heritage of old Dhaka and the touch of modern urbanization coexist.
