Karail(City area)

Korail is a highly populated and densely settled area under Ward No.

19 of the Dhaka North City Corporation, located right next to the Banani and Gulshan areas.

Administratively, it falls under the jurisdiction of Banani Police Station, and geographically, it has developed around a vast water body known as the 'Korail Jheel'.

The area is primarily known as a habitat for low and middle-income people, and due to its location surrounded by affluent areas like Banani, Mohakhali, and Gulshan, it is considered one of the most important and strategic locations in the city.

Although the area is known for its narrow alleys and congested settlements, it features several local markets and mosques, which are the hubs of daily life.

While there are no major tourist attractions, the vast lake here is one of the main attractions for the locals.

Recently, there have been discussions about bringing the Korail slum or area under various development projects, which has created the possibility of major changes in its housing system.

Furthermore, the area is quite vibrant with local industries and small businesses.

Although no specific well-known personality is historically associated with it, Korail remains an integral part of Dhaka's map primarily for the tireless industriousness of its workers and laboring people.
