Kurmitola(City area)

Kurmitola is a highly important and strategic area of Dhaka, primarily falling under the Dhaka North City Corporation.

It is located along the Airport Road, and a large part of it is geographically occupied by Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Kurmitola is known as a highland or hilly area, with Banani and Uttara situated to its south and north, respectively.

The terrain here is somewhat undulating, and it serves as one of the city's busiest communication hubs, connecting the capital with the rest of the country via air.

The main attractions and prominent establishments in this area include Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Kurmitola Golf Club, and Kurmitola General Hospital.

Additionally, the Bangladesh Army's Kurmitola Cantonment and various important government offices are located here.

As for landmarks, the vast green fields of the golf club and the modern infrastructure adjacent to the airport are quite eye-catching.

In the past, during the British colonial period, this area was known as the 'Kurmitola Airfield.' Among notable figures, the mausoleum of the late President Ziaur Rahman, one of the organizers of Bangladesh's Great War of Liberation, is located in Chandrima Udyan adjacent to the Kurmitola area, which holds great national significance.

Currently, the area is frequently in the headlines as it is the focal point of mega-projects such as the Dhaka Elevated Expressway and the development of modern communication systems.
