This upazila is particularly known for its mountain waterfalls, economic zone, and ongoing work on the country's longest marine drive.

Mirsharai upazila is situated near the border of the Indian state of Tripura, and one of the country's largest industrial hubs, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar, is being developed here. Notable commercial centers and markets of this area include Zorarganj Bazar, Mirsharai Sadar Bazar, Baro Darogahat, and Barearhat.
In terms of natural features, Mirsharai is a unique location with green hills to the east and the Bay of Bengal to the west. Nestled against the hills are Khaiyachhara Waterfall, Napitachhara Waterfall, Boalia Waterfall, and Mohamaya Lake with its artificial waterfall, which serve as major tourist attractions in the country. Additionally, the area features the Feni River basin along with coastal embankment dams and mangrove forests.
Regarding history and landmarks, Mirsharai holds sites associated with the anti-British movement and some structures from the Mughal era. Located beside the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, the Mirsharai Economic Zone is the most significant contemporary state landmark. Other notable structures include Mohamaya Lake and the Mirsharai Stadium.
To promote education, the upazila hosts traditional educational institutions such as Mirsharai Government College, Nizampur Government College, Karerhat Kamrul Islam Chowdhury College, and Mirsharai Pilot High School. For healthcare, there is an upazila health complex along with several sub-health centers and clinics.
Mirsharai is easily accessible from Dhaka via the highway or railway connecting to Chattogram. Buses from Dhaka or Chattogram can directly drop passengers at Mirsharai Sadar, Barearhat, or Zorarganj. Furthermore, train services are available at various railway stations across Mirsharai upazila along the Dhaka-Chattogram railway route.
