It is situated to the south of Mirsharai upazila headquarters along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway and is known for its coastal characteristics.

Several small rivers and canals originating from the Bay of Bengal basin flow past Mithanala Union. A significant portion of the area consists of coastal shoals and protective embankments against tidal surges.
The area features several traditional and religious establishments. Mithanala Bazar is known as a traditional and busy commercial center where people from surrounding villages come for their daily necessities.
For the spread of education, this union has Mithanala Multilateral High School along with several government primary schools and madrasas.
Mithanala Union is easily accessible from the Dhaka-Chattogram highway by road using buses or CNG-operated auto-rickshaws.
