
Rajarhat(Upazila)
Rajarhat Upazila is an administrative area of Kurigram District, Bangladesh. Many rivers including Teesta and Dharla flow through Rajarhat. Location and Area The total area of this upazila is 165.59 square kilometers. This upazila is located west of the district headquarters between 25'38-25'53 north latitude and 89'27-89'38 east longitude. This upazila is bounded by Phulbari Upazila and Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila to the north, Ulipur Upazila and Pirgachha Upazila of Rangpur District to the south, Kurigram Sadar Upazila to the east, Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila and Kaunia Upazila of Rangpur District to the west. Administrative Area Rajarhat Upazila has a total of 7 unions, these are: Gharialdanga Union Chinai Union Rajarhat Union Chakirpashar Union Bidyanand Union Umar Majid Union Nazimkhan Union History and Naming Despite widespread disagreements about why Rajarhat was named Rajarhat, no one has been able to find out the exact reason. In the early 12th century, the Sena dynasty ruled in Rangpur. The last kings of the Sena dynasty were Nildhabaj Chandra Sen and Nilambar Sen. King Nilambar Sen was very powerful. He won many wars. His capital was at a place called Chatra. This Chatra is currently located in Bidyanand Union of Rajarhat Upazila. Here was the fort of the powerful King Nilambar. In 1498 AD, Sultan Hossain Shah of Gaur attacked the kingdom of Nilambar. A fierce battle took place on the banks of the Tistandi river between both sides. In this war, King Nilambar was defeated and took up residence in Chaturbhuj Fort, which was surrounded by rivers on all sides. It is located at the mouth of the Senai River, Satbon River and Dharla. Sultan Hossain Shah's son Nasiruddin Abul Muzaffar Nash led the war against Nilambar… It includes 7 unions: Bidyananda, Chakirpashar, Chinnai, Gharialdanga, Nazimkhan, Rajarhat, Umar Majid.
