Ulipur(Upazila)

Ulipur Upazila is an administrative area of Kurigram District, Bangladesh. It is one of the largest upazilas in the country. Location and Area Ulipur Upazila is located 18 km south of Kurigram District Headquarters, between 25°33' and 25°49' North latitude and 89°29' and 89°51' East longitude. It is bordered by Kurigram Sadar Upazila and Rajarhat Upazila to the north, Sundarganj Upazila and Chilmari Upazila of Gaibandha District to the south, Roumari Upazila and Assam, India to the east, Pirgachha Upazila of Rangpur District and Sundarganj Upazila of Gaibandha District to the west. Area Ulipur Upazila has an area of 504.19 square kilometers. Administrative Area Ulipur Upazila has one municipality, 13 union parishads, 147 mouzas and 358 villages. The administrative activities of this upazila are under Ulipur Thana. Out of which, 1,98,625 are males and 2,12,265 are females. Education According to the 2011 census, the literacy rate of Ulipur Upazila is 55.40% (male 58.45%, female 53.91%). There are 8 colleges (1 government college), 62 secondary schools (1 government secondary school), 242 primary schools (11 government primary schools), 55 madrasas (40 Dakhil, 6 Alim, 8 Fazil and 1 Kamil Madrasas) in this upazila.
