Urirchar Union is situated at the estuary of the Meghna River as a turbulent char. People here live by fighting against river erosion, newly accreted land from silt deposition, and tides. For communication, travel to the Sandwip upazila headquarters or the mainland is primarily dependent on waterways. Engine-driven boats or trawlers crossing the river are the only reliable means of transport.
