About the Institute
Chittagong Medical College (CMC) is one of the oldest and traditional medical educational institutions in Bangladesh established in 1957. Spread over about 54 acres of land in the Panchlaish residential area of the port city of Chittagong, this campus is known for its aesthetic architecture and lush green surroundings. Since its establishment, it has been serving as the main center for healthcare and medical education in greater Chittagong. The huge playground, well-equipped library and historic administrative building inside the campus attract the attention of visitors.
Currently, MBBS and BDS courses are taught here in a modern and up-to-date manner. Under the supervision of experienced professors and doctors, special emphasis is given to hands-on clinical education along with theoretical classes. The Chittagong Medical College Hospital attached to the college is the largest hospital in the region, where students get the opportunity to gain practical experience through internships. In addition, post-graduate courses and research activities are also regularly conducted under various departments.
In terms of geographical location, the distance between Kurigram district and Chittagong Medical College is more than 550 kilometers. To travel here from Kurigram, one usually has to use road or air. From Kurigram, one has to first reach Chittagong via Rangpur or Dhaka by bus or train, then one can easily reach this institution located in Panchlaish area by rickshaw or CNG from any part of the city.
This institution is the birthplace of many renowned doctors and talented personalities. Renowned doctors, researchers and public health experts of Bangladesh have completed their education from here. In addition, many famous people of the national level, who have made important contributions to social service and politics in addition to medical services, are also alumni of this college. The knowledge and skills they have acquired are playing a unique role in improving the quality of medical services across the country today.
