Jagannath University

Jagannath University is a traditional higher education institution located in Sadarghat, the heart of Dhaka. It started its journey as 'Jagannath School' in 1858 and later transformed into Jagannath College in 1905. After a long journey, it was upgraded to a full-fledged public university in 2005 according to the law of the National Parliament. Although this university, located on the banks of the Buriganga River, is established on an area of only 11 acres, its historical importance is immense. The historical architecture inside the campus, the central Shaheed Minar and the Shanto Chattar are known as tourist attractions for students. Currently, the university is teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in a modern manner under 36 departments and 2 institutes. In addition to the semester system, efforts are being made to develop students' skills through multimedia classrooms and research laboratories. Although the university does not have its own residential hall, work is underway on a new campus in Keraniganj, which will further expand the scope of student accommodation and research in the future. The distance from Kurigram district town to Jagannath University is about 350 kilometers. Bus or train is the main means of transportation from Kurigram to Dhaka. From Kurigram, one can reach Dhaka directly by bus or train and easily reach the university by rickshaw or CNG via Sadarghat or Gulistan. Due to the ease of transportation, students from different parts of the country come here to pursue higher education. The names of many talented people are associated with this institution. This campus was famous for the walks of renowned educationists, writers and politicians. National Professor of Bangladesh Dr. Anisuzzaman, renowned novelist Humayun Ahmed, martyred intellectual Munir Chowdhury and former President Zillur Rahman were associated with this institution in one way or another. Their memories and ideals still inspire the students of Jagannath University.
