Akbarshah Thana is bounded by Sitakunda upazila to the north and east, Pahartali Thana to the south, and Khulshi Thana to the west. The Dhaka-Chittagong highway and railway lines pass through the area. Notable commercial and busy areas include AK Khan Mor, Bishwaroad Mor, Alankar Mor, and the Foy's Lake area.
A major natural attraction of the area is Foy's Lake and its surrounding hills. Additionally, the northern part of Batali Hill and various hill slopes are part of this area's topography.
Foy's Lake Amusement Park and Resort is a popular recreation center located within this thana. There are also several local mosques and madrasas here.
Well-known educational institutions in the area include Southern University Bangladesh, Ehsanul Ulum Zilia Madrasah, along with various local schools and colleges. For healthcare, there are several clinics and diagnostic centers.
For transportation, the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway and Dhaka Trunk Road are the main communication routes. It is easily accessible by road using buses, CNG auto-rickshaws, and via railway from Chittagong railway station or other nearby stations.
