Andarkilla Shahi Jame Mosque is a very ancient and historic place of worship in Chittagong city. This mosque was built in 1666 after the recovery of Chittagong from the Portuguese during the reign of Mughal Subadar Shaista Khan. Built in the Mughal architectural style, this mosque features exquisite domes and a vast courtyard. Due to its historical significance and unique architectural style, it is a highly respected and well-known place among the people of Chittagong.
There are good facilities for offering prayers in congregation inside the mosque. Notable areas surrounding it include Laldighi Field, Hazaripani, and the historic commercial area of Chaktai Khal. The Karnaphuli River is not very far from here. Additionally, well-known educational institutions like Chittagong College and Government Muslim High School are located nearby.
One can easily go to Anderkilla intersection by rickshaw, CNG-driven auto-rickshaw, or bus from any part of Chittagong city and reach this mosque from there.
