Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), formerly known as PG Hospital, is the highest medical education institution in Bangladesh. This institution, which started its journey as the 'Institute of Post Graduate Medicine and Research' (IPGMR) in 1965, was converted into a full-fledged university in 1998. Located in Shahbagh, Dhaka, this university is spread over about 17 acres of land. Its architectural style and vast campus are known as a unique center of medical research. Currently, higher medical education is being provided here through residency programs, MD, MS, MPH and various diploma courses. Hands-on research education is ensured here under the supervision of modern laboratories, rich libraries and experienced professors. National Professor Dr. Nurul Islam, who was the founding director of IPGMR, has made an unforgettable contribution to the history of this institution.
